About the Katherine Region

Katherine, with a population of over 10,000, is situated 300 km southeast of Darwin in the "Top End", the third largest community in the Northern Territory. Katherine is a naturally stunning part of the Top End, attracting tourists from around the world. Nitmiluk National Park near the town features many activities such as camping, swimming, fishing (lures only), sightseeing, canoeing, boat cruises and bush walk trails.

About the Opportunity 

Victoria Daly Regional Council has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Finance Manager to join their team based in Katherine, NT. 

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer you will have the primary day-to-day responsibility of planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the Council.

More specifically, you will: 

  • Provide high-level management advice and guidance to the Executive, senior management and staff on financial and budget matters;
  • Supervise accounting functions including the maintenance of general ledgers, bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, BAS Statements, PAYG remittances, asset registers and depreciation schedules;
  • Manage the preparation for audits, cash flow forecasting, budgets and reporting;
  • Produce and analyse financial reports on a monthly basis;
  • Provide consultative direction on Tender and Procurement processes in line with relevant Legislation;
  • Manage the Budgeting and Annual Financial Statement activities;
  • Management and implementation of the Council Investment Policy; and
  • Ensure the policies and procedures of the Council are adhered to and all resources actively deployed.

The ideal candidate will have highly developed analytical and conceptual skills and have extensive knowledge and understanding of public sector accounting and financial practices. Extensive experience in preparing and producing financial management or other reports including asset management and control procedures, accounts receivable and payable functions are critical. 

You will also have senior experience and a record of achievement in budget management and the financial accounting function in major public sector or commercial corporations.

An appropriate tertiary qualification CPA or equivalent is essential.
